Insurance

Discussion of services available to owners of Floating Homes. Examples would be contractors, insurance companies, etc. Discussion of marinas belongs in the Marinas forum.

Postings by commercial services must follow these rules:
1. Local companies only. Local means Northwest Oregon or Southwest Washington.
2. Companies may respond appropriately to specific questions or requests. (Positive, helpful postings can really benefit your business.)
3. Companies may post a notice of a service they offer in response to current events. For example, after an ice storm a contractor may post a notice of their recovery services.
4. Postings must be brief, to the point, on-topic and honest.
5. Companies may post a notice of a completed project. For example, a builder might announce that he has completed a new floating home and tell a bit about it.
6. This bulletin board is privately owned. Commercial postings may not in any way jeopardize the BBS owner. The owner reserves the right to delete any and all postings without recourse.
Forum rules
The Floating Homes forums are for mature discussion only. Postings must be appropriate to the selected forum. Honest problem reports are fine, but postings with inappropriate, slanderous, or libelous statements will be deleted.

Insurance

Hi,
Like most houseboat owners, we are insured by Red Shield. In the early 1990s, when I built my first houseboat, they were a very good company to deal with. But they were the only ones offering insurance for floating homes and lack of competition is not good for a company, so they seem to have become pretty harsh and autocratic.
Today I found a note from Hokanson Insurance Agency in Portland in a stack of old mail. It claims that United Heritage Insurance will also insure floating homes. Does anyone know anything about them? Which company has the better reputation? The more assets? Has anyone insured with United? I'd sure like to hear about your experiences with them.
